In November 2020 we have updated the Explore pages for "All records" and "My records". You should find that these load a lot faster than the previous versions, and are capable of displaying all records (so that the default restriction to the latest month of records that was set on the old "All records" page is no longer needed). Many of the features of the new pages are similar to the old, but there are some changes. The old versions of the pages will remain available for some time, so that these can still be accessed if needed (via links at the top of the new pages).
For full details of the new pages see using the new Explore pages (in the Help menu).
I'm afraid I am now unable to access 'my records' to see/edit etc on the new pages .... it simply goes to the new pages, freezes comes up with an error message that won't disappear even if you keep hitting the OK button and I have to leave the iRecord site completely and re-load the home page again. Is anyone else having that problem?
Thanks.
I haven't seen an error message myself on the new My records page. Can you let us know which web browser you are using? And what does the error message say?
Are you still able to access the old page at:
https://www.irecord.org.uk/my-records-old
I have the same problem. I get a message saying elasticsearch failed in a box with an 'OK' button. I'm using Firefox with Malwarebytes.
Same result on Chrome.
The alternative link to the old site is working fine.
Hi,
I'm having the same problem as Surrey Birder. I get the Elasticsearch failed message, with an Okay button that takes about 4 clicks to clear. I've tried logging in using 2 different browsers - Firefox and Vivaldi, with the same result.
Thanks for the reports, we'll investigate and fix it when we can.
This should be fixed now - thanks for letting us know.
John
It is faster that the Species Maps and has the advantage that date filters can be appied.
Yes, thanks, quick fix!!
Doesn't display well on Android. The delay confused me and I ended up submitting twice.
Probably a matter of shorter time at the server but a larger volume of data to download. In the old version the server time was defnitely the controlling factor.
Explore all records for square TQ5536 Broadwater Warren near Tunbridge Wells is coloured very dark blue. However clicking on this square show 3 records. There should be a large number. I've tried several times on two computers.
I click on a square in Sussex. First page of results states 30 of 65. I click on next to see some of the others, but then the total number of records is shown and the next records are in Buckinghamshire!
This issue happens on all records and my records.
We're aware that the new Explore pages do not allow the records to be queried by clicking on the dots in the same way as the old ones, and we're looking for options to reinstate this function. For now, if you want to be able to click on particular dots/squares and see all the records underneath the dot you will need to go back to the old versions of the Explore pages. Or alternatively you can "Create a filter" and query records by grid square from there.
As the others same error message. No, I can't access any records at all.
Chrome web browser
Thanks.
Sorry, that last message only just sent saying I still couldn't see rcords. I can now thanks v much!
Hi, sorry me again. I can't edit any record I've put in eg date of record. I edit it, but then it shows it has NOT been edited.
Thanks
I was checking square SU4170. I created a filter for 'Myriapoda' and clicked on the square, getting 7 hits. I then removed the filter and clicked on the square again and got 1 hit, for a moth, with all the previous hits missing. The old Explore All delivers 299 records for that square, although this includes a few for SU alone. The oldest record in the 299 is the one delivered by the new explorer with no filter.
If I use the new Explorer and create a filter using SU4170 I can see all the records. Most of them disappear if I click on any of the circles.
The way this now displays (on a laptop) is really unclear and far worse than the previous version which displayed records clearly including the verification status. It's now quite cryptic as to whether a record is verified or not. Can't this be at least as good as earlier version?
my records are now displayed as open circles with a variety of shades of blue. There is no explanation of what this means although I'm guessing that the depth of shading relates to how many records are included in that grid square. At first I thought it might be the verification status.
PLEASE can we have the large "Thumbnail" pictures back.
When I am trying to ID something, I query iRecord "All records" and then look at the pictures in a similar way to that great moth app "What's flying tonight".
This is just not possible with the smaller pictures.
Thanks Peter
I support Major Bombylius' comments re the way things are displayed on a laptop in the new Explore pages. A step backwards, unfortunately.
Agreed. The intensity seems to reflect the number of records. However the darkest circles obscure the map which is annoying.
A similar problem occurs if a record is higlighted. It's dark blue obscuring the edit or view link although the link still works if you can click where it ought to be.
That doesn't always work properly either even with a filter created. Try it with an area selected in the filter.
I'm getting the Elastic Search failed message repeatedly whereas previously I didn't. Also a new bug seems to be in the way my records are displayed. It defaults to 30 records per page. When I move to the next (previous page) it omits about 23 records. If I select 60 records per page they re-appear.
From Explore my records (https://www.irecord.org.uk/my-records) I click on the Edit this record icon and it takes me to https://www.irecord.org.uk/?occurrence_id=18277488 which unfortunately actually displays the home page!
The old explore my records takes you to https://www.irecord.org.uk/edit-generic-record?occurrence_id=18277488
This is using the latest Microsoft Edge
It doesn't appear to be faster. On the old one if I wanted to get the URL for the various records I had entered as soon as I had entered the records I could go to the My Records list and see everything I've just entered. On the new one however it displays a message saying it will take a little while to come through (although fortunately providing a link to the older, more rapidly updated, page). Am I missing something?
One bug that realy needs to be fixed and a few suggestions.
1) If I use Explore my Sites and then click on Explore against a particular site name the displayed records aren't filtered for that site boundary, and the map displayed is where I was last exploring. This is a bug and needs to be fixed.
2) All records in current filter only shows a 1km resolution which is a step backwards for me; I use the old explore to produce a detailed distribution map of species for particular sites. Could we please retain this facility?
3) The heat map is OK though, but I think the heat map associated with the verify maps is better.
4) Any plans to use this new mapping for Explore Activity Records? Something faster that what's there just now would be realy handy.
Best regards, Graham
David: you are correct that it does take some time (usually 10-15 minutes) for newly-added records to appear on the Explore pages. The increased speed refers to the speed at which the pages themselves open up and display their records. This may not be so noticeable on Explore my records, but it makes a big difference to Explore all records.
Graham: thanks for that feedback. For your point 4 the Activity explore pages are now using the new system, as of today. I've documented your other points but I can't offer an immediate solution to them - we will try to address them as resources permit.
Thank you! Looking much better already.
Why are some circles being displayed in red. If I click on these to see the record nothing is displayed. If I then reload to the page or filter, the circle wil be blue again and I can see the record. This is rather annoying. What's happening?
I think I've now worked this out. I've clicked the the display all records of this species option so when I click on a record, the red circles are those that correspond to this option ie same species, but because I have included a date period in my filter the details of the record aren't displayed.
Thanks for the reply. Does mean it will be slower for the main thing I use it for so hopefully you will keep the old one up as well to remain useful.
I have some records where I've included a sound eg record 21723048. I cannot view or edit these records because the sound icon completely obliterates the view and edit icons.
I can only view or edit these records in the previous version.
